Privacy Policy

CleanDev is a Mac app that finds and removes what developer tools leave behind. This policy covers CleanDev, CleanDev Lite and this website. It is short because the app collects nothing.

Nothing leaves your Mac

CleanDev has no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting. Scanning, cleaning and the cleanup log all stay on your Mac. We never receive your files, their names, their sizes or anything about how you use the app.

What the app reads, and why

• Folders developer tools use, such as Xcode’s DerivedData and Archives, simulator folders, package caches, and the build and dependency folders of your projects. CleanDev reads their names, sizes, dates and small metadata files (for example an archive’s app name and version) to show you what can be cleaned.
• The list of running apps, so that anything an open app is using is kept instead of removed.
• Your simulator list, through Apple’s own simctl tool, to know which simulators are open and which can be reset.

None of this is stored anywhere except in memory while the app runs, and none of it is sent anywhere.

What the app keeps on your Mac

• A cleanup log for each cleanup: what was removed, how, how much space it freed, and what was kept and why. It is saved in the app’s Application Support folder so you can check it or send it to us yourself if you ask for help. You can delete it at any time.
• CleanDev Lite only: the permission for the project folders you choose, saved as a bookmark so you do not have to choose them again. Removing a folder in the app removes its bookmark.

Full Disk Access

The direct-download version can scan projects in Desktop, Documents and Downloads. macOS protects these folders; you can grant Full Disk Access or let macOS ask for each folder. The access is only used to find developer leftovers, on your Mac.

This website does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

Children

CleanDev is a tool for software developers and is not directed at children.

Changes

If what the app does with data ever changes, this page changes first and the date at the top is updated.
